Summary on Grant Application Form |
The project concerns the development of a novel form of variable-frequency, synchronous motor drive to give advantageous performance characteristics for electric vehicle drives. A proposed hybrid motor has axially-separated permanent-magnet and reluctance rotor sections, combining the properties of these two arrangements. Analytical and computational procedures will be developed for performance prediction and motor design. A laboratory test rig is to be designed and constructed, incorporating variable-frequency supply and suitable control functions, to enable the motor to be evaluated under supply and load conditions which are representative of an electric vehicle drive.
