Summary on Grant Application Form |
Electrokinetic soil treatment is a developing remediation method, which has potential for both removal of contaminants and injection of nutrients/fixing compounds. The mechanisms of electrokinesis in natural soils will be investigated in undisturbed cores of natural soils, in order to establish how soil fabric, organic matter and multi-phase contamination influence electrokinetic transport. The ability of Electrical Resistance Tomography (ERT) to monitor the injection and removal of metal ions from soils will be investigated. Post-treatment chemical analysis of the cores will allow correlation of the resistivity images with real chemical variables.
