Summary on Grant Application Form |
1. To understand the molecular and micellar properties that govern the time dependence of surfactant adsorption and surface tension at the air-water interface.2. To develop two advanced methods for studying important aspects of the dynamicsa) Brewster angle microscopy on a flowing surface to follow the dynamics of adsorptionb) Stopped-flow Small-angle X-ray Scattering with dead time ~ 1 ms to measure micelle break down rates and structural changes.3. To relate these properties to dynamic surface tensions measured over a time range 5ms - 10 s iv) to model the results using recent theories.
