Summary on Grant Application Form |
There are 3 aspects to this research.1) Theoretical problems in data modelling. These include describing time behaviour, recording information about information e.g. entry time, validity, failure of data design assumptions, and representing and fully using the relationships between items implicit in arithmetic formulae.2) Applying them to a simple and limited domain - basic accountancy - and testing them on real users and their concerns. We will gather requirements from users, build a program, test it with the users.3) Developing an advanced user interface of high usability in order to secure real use, and because the domain also brings out research issues in user centred system design: in particular, how best to develop interfaces based on intentional descriptions (e.g. programming languages, retrieval queries) which direct manipulation is by definition unable to support.
