Summary on Grant Application Form
For the study of fluid behaviour in highly nonlinear regimes, rotating channel flows have the advantage that their laminar shear motions are exactly parallel and can be expressed analytically in a simple form of exact solutions of the Navier-Stokes equation for all Reynolds numbers and the rotation parameter. Secondary and tertiary flows in this system have been explored extensively by the investigator. In this project, the stability of the tertiary flows and quaternary time-dependent solutions are investigated for basic velocity flows with different symmetry. The method developed by the investigator using symmetry arguments has proven to be effective in finding new types of steady non-linear solutions. This method is extended to three-dimensional time-dependent cases.
