Summary on Grant Application Form |
Wood composites offer considerable benefits over traditional solid timber in their use as structural beams. Their use in timber trusses however is currently hampered by a shortfall of knowledge on their response to directional stresses which are encountered at joints. This project is intended to develop a fundamental understanding of the forces which act at timber joints and the strains induced by these forces. The model will then be used to analyse existing joint types and as a basis for the development of new systems with improved performance.
