USR relaxation techniques have a particular relevance to the study of organic solids. Investigation of organic magnetism is now developing rapidly; preliminary studies made by us on ferromagnets based on nitronyl nitroxide have given encouraging results and we shall pursue them. The penetration depth is an important fundamental property of super-conductors and is readily obtained by USR methods. We plan to study in the newly developed organic superconductors based on charge transfer salts of the ET molecule and to explore the possibility of observing flux vortex motion. We shall also use USR to explore carrier dynamics in conducting polymers of the polyaniline type.Satisfactory explanation of experimental results requires a fully co-ordinated theoretical programme to determine the muon configuration in the solid and to calculate hyperfine interactions and their effect on muon polarisation. We shall be particularly concerned with developing theoretical techniques to reveal zero-point effects arising from quantum properties of the muon.
