Summary on Grant Application Form |
An attempt will be made to develop a new method for forming chirally pure anti-1, 2-propionate and anti-1, 2-diol units via the addition of novel chiral allylzirconium complexes to aldhydes.Allyl zirconium reagents will be prepared by the addition of ZrCp2 to protected allyl alcohols. Initial investigations will concentrate on optimisation of diastereoselectivity in the reactions. Hence, differently protected allyl alcohols will be prepared and reacted with ZrCp2 and the newly formed allyl zirconium reagents reacted with aldehydes. The diastereoselectivity of the products will be determined by HPLC and NMR. Further investigations will concentrate on optimisation of enantioselectivity in the reactions. Protected allylic alcohols containing chiral protecting groups will be prepared and reacted with ZrCp2. A number of terpene derived auxiliaries and auxiliaries with potential to co-ordinate with zirconium atom will be examined. Enantiomeric excesses will be determined by chiral HPLC.
