Summary on Grant Application Form
The proposed programme will evaluate the pyroelectric coefficients of selected families of high performance molecular crystalline materials. Many of these will be new, but existing materials will be examined initially while now compounds are being developed. Preliminary results on one compound already show that pyroelectric coefficients will be examined to determine the optimum conditions of operation of these materials. A prototype detector will be constructed from an optimised material and its characteristics will be determined. The relationship between molecular and crystal structure and pyroelectric coefficient will be examined. This work will complement the crystal growth and optical characterisation programmes already in place.
