1. i) Measurement by hot film and optical fibre probes of the mean and turbulence flow structure, including the large scale instabilities which occur in inclined pipes. ii) Comparison of experimental results with numerical simulation and the development of an improved two phase turbulence model. 2. The study of the effect of water impurities on the two phase flow structure. (1) Two phase flow in an inclined pipe. (a) Test rig modification and instrumentation implementation. (b) Main phase. The large scale bubble driven instabilities in inclined pipes will be measured with the developed hot film/optical probe, and classified in a form suitable for inclusion in a turbulence model for a two phase CFD code. These measurements will be used to interpret related experimental data and to develop improved turbulence models for two phase flow CFD codes. 2. Study of the effect of surfactance on two phase flow developments.
