Summary on Grant Application Form |
Computational materials science is a rapidly growing field. There is, nevertheless, a total lack of long term planning and coordination, which makes published work very difficult to check, assess and reproduce. Publications almost never include detailed algorithms. On the rare occasions when the algorithms are available on request, they are in a sufficiently non-standard form as to require detailed assistance or reinvention. There are no subroutine libraries available which can enable the synthesis of programmes for the solution of specific user problems or for research into new areas. The Materials Algorithms Group will function as a centre for the validation and distribution of algorithms for process simulation and the modelling of the properties of materials.
