Summary on Grant Application Form |
We wish to understand the complex nuclear many-body system by identifying and exploring new degrees of freedom in exotic nuclei and in exotic nuclear configurations. We will continue to build on successes with theoretical models of the structure of neutron-halo nuclei and their interactions, and with the study of high spin isomeric states. New facilities for the study of large scale clustering will be exploited at the Australian National University (Canberra). Priority will go to the development of experimental and theoretical techniques to exploit newly available radioactive beams in the UK, Belgium and USA. Complementary cluster, few-body and microscopic studies of light- and heavy-ion reactions, including their spin-dependence, will continue to be developed and used to evaluate appropriate theoretical models. We will continue established successful collaborations with experimental and theoretical groups internationally. We will explore the description of meson-nucleon and meson-nucleus interactions the role of mesonic degress of freedom in the nuclear medium and in nuclear reactions.
