Summary on Grant Application Form
1. To develop novel active - latent glycosylation methods which will enable the preparation of complex oligosaccharides and oligosaccharide mimics in a concise manner.2. The prepared oligosaccharide will be used elucidate the important factors controlling carbohydrate-protein interaction. Initially we will focus on the role of the flanking portion of the oligosaccharide in controlling the conformation of the binding segment.3. To design and synthesis small saccharide units (di- or tri-saccharides) bearing the relevant binding determinants and which are constrained (by tethering) to mimic conformationally the recognition site inherent to the oligosaccharides stabilised in the protein ligand complex.
