Summary on Grant Application Form |
Fabrication of downconverters using integrated metal pipe waveguide technology at 100GHz, 200GHz, 600GHz and a 1.6THz mixer.Progress:A PDRA has been appointed to work on this project and a CASE student (funded by Matra Marconi Space Systems) has been given special responsibility for the 1.6THz mixer. An electron beam lithography facility using a Jeol 35C microscope has been established and tested. An oxygen plasma etcher has been acquired and set up. The process used in the fabrication of integrated metal pipe waveguides has been developed and good waveguides covering the whole frequency range of interest have now been made. Considerable progress has been made on electroforming and nickel plating has been added to our range of options. Mask sets have been designed for some of the devices and the first stage trials of micromachining using the excimer laser at DRAL are imminent. The work is now concentrating on the fabrication of plated whisker structures needed in all of the active devices.
