Summary on Grant Application Form |
This is a large interdisciplinary programme on high temperature superconductors involving major research activities in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science and Electrical Engineering. The programme includes investigation of the fundamental science underlying the properties of the high temperature cuprate superconductors, an understanding of the science underlying the application of such materials, the synthesis of new materials with improved superconducting properties, the processing and characterisation of such materials in bulk, thick-film and thin-film forms, and the application of such materials for potential devices, with an emphasis on SQUIDS, 3-terminal devices (suFETs), antennas and microwave structures. Support is requested to consolidate what is intended to be an internationally competitive Laser Ablation Facility, for the growth of epitaxial thin film structures for both basic science investigations and applications.
