Summary on Grant Application Form
The programme comprises field measurement and computational modelling of shingle beach response to offshore breakwaters.Field measurements: Wave climate measurements using the Inshore Wave Climate monitoring system with on-site data logger. This will provide full water surface elevation and directional spectra. Sediment transport measurement will involve the use of traps and will cover wave-by-wave, tidal, and event timescales. Topographical surveys will monitor beach form over tidal and event timescales.A full archived data set will be produced.Various aspects of sediment transport modelling will be covered, including (a) comparative testing of existing transport formulae, (b) comparison of beach profile response models, (c) testing a beach plan shape model designed to simulate conditions with offshore structures.
