Summary on Grant Application Form |
A combination of cyclic and conventional DSC experiments, together with supporting optical microscopy, TEM and EPMA, will be used to investigate the kinetics of nucleation and growth during the solidification of metals and alloys. Research will concentrate on (1) developing the theory and analysis of cyclic DSC; (2) solidification and melting of pure metals; (3) heterogeneous nucleation of solidification; (4) solid fraction and latent heat release during alloy solidification; and (5) crystallisation of amorphous alloys.
