Summary on Grant Application Form
1) To generate a solid understanding of the manufacturing processes, to determine appropriate design rules, and to identify suitable materials for the consistent achievement of reliable conducting/isolating joints using anisotropic adhesives. Such adhesives are to be used as a solder replacement in both fine pitch surface mount, and in flip chip interconnect. This understanding will be demonstrated by the construction and test of prototype circuits.2) To review the limitations of existing and next generation materials for achieving anisotropic conduction, to propose alternative routes for the production of new adhesive joining systems that will address these limitations, and to construct and test alternative configurations that are manufacturable using the facilities of LUT and the project partners.
