Summary on Grant Application Form
(i) Starting from 3 kgm of commercially produced 12-chlorododecanol (1,X=C1), oxidation to 12-chlorododecanal (2,X=C1) will be followed by conversion to the acetal (3,X=C1). (ii) The acetal (3,X=C1) is the true starting material for a chain-doubling process using the Sittig reaction: deprotection to regenerate the aldehyde (2,X=C1), and reaction with tripheynlphosphine to give the phosphonium salt (4,X=C1). (iii) The C24 chloroacetal (5,X=C1) obtained in (ii) will be used for analogous chain-doubling process - up to six times in all. (iv) Siginficant amounts of high purity C390 (C384 + C6) and C774 (C768 + C6) hydrocarbon will be prepared, as well as increased amounts of C198, C246 and C296 hydro-carbons and other intermediate chain length and modified hydrocarbons, according to requests.
