The Strathclyde crystallisation programme aims to provide:(a) fundamental information on the growth and development process of the particles.(b) Samples characteristic of particular stages in the processing of the material for examination by the Bradford group.(c) A definition of the mechanical properties of the materials.By a series of examinations of single crystal growth involving the study of the growth and dissolution kinetics of single crystals, the single crystal growth process will be defined. Conditions of supersaturation and hydrodynamic variation will be evaluated which lead to the production of crystals in a range of perfect and defective states. The influence of impurities on these processes and on the morphology and polymorphic nature of the material will be studied. This basic information will be extended to the bulk crystallisation of small crystals more typical of those which form in industrial crystallisers.
