These are to achieve a clear understanding of the processes involved in estimating the time required to perform software development: to develop a new methodology for estimating and scheduling design: and to test the methodology in the industrial context. This will result in the delivery of a case study of the design estimation procedure used in AT&T: the identification of key decision points in the estimation of software design activities: and a theoretical model of the process of estimation.
