Summary on Grant Application Form
This proposal concerns a fundamental study into the identification of multi degree of freedom nonlinear structures using an extension of Normal Mode Force Appropriation Methods. The appropriated force patterns needed to isolate a normal mode for a linear structure will be combined with the Restoring Force Surface Method to permit identification of a nonlinear mathematical model based on linear modal space. In addition, the identification of the nonlinear characteristics of a discrete joint or component in a multi degree of freedom structure will be considered using a transmissibility from of the Restoring Force Surface method.
