Summary on Grant Application Form |
This project concerns study of the particle formation processes of nucleation, crystal growth and agglomeration during precipitation in agitated suspensions. It is directed towards measurement of the effects of important process variables on both the macroscopic size of the agglomerate particles and on the microscopic size and specific surface area of the constituent crystals. The main objectives are:1.To use the crystallizers that we have developed to study precipitation in both liquid-liquid and gas-liquid systems.2.To determine the interaction of precipitate chemistry, hydrodynamics and particle formation kinetics.3.To determine the factors that control both the overall particle size distribution and degree of agglomeration.4.To develop our novel dynamic model of particle size and degree of agglomeration during precipitation to include aggregate structure thereby providing a major step forward in prediction and control of both primary and secondary precipitate particle characteristics.
