Summary on Grant Application Form |
The fortuitous band alignment in GaAs/AlGaAs heterostructures, whereby the GaAs + band minimum can be made to cross the AlGaAs x minimum by the application of high pressure, will be used to obtain the absolute shift of the conduction and valence band edges in GaAs-based alloys. Comparison of the results with the predictions of the model solid theory will show whether valence-band bowing needs to be considered, and whether the binary compounds are correctly placed on the absolute energy scale.
