Summary on Grant Application Form |
The proposed research seeks to build on the applicants experience of computer modelling certain metallurgical growth processes and microstructure to improve current models and generate new ones. The full potential and limitations of cellular automata techniques when used as computer models of metallic microstructure have yet to be discovered. This programme seeks to demonstrate the use of computer models of microstructures using cellular automata in areas, such as coupled growth phenomena, where it has never been applied before and assess the potential usefulness of these methods for the next generation of materials processing computer codes.
