Summary on Grant Application Form |
This collaborative research project brings together over 20 industrial partners with 2 universities in a unique research project to develop the generic technology of sub KW, single phase and two phase switched reluctance drives with the aim of reducing the manufacturing costs to a level where after a product development phase they will be suitable for incorporation into products such as domestic appliances and power tools, in automotive and aerospace applications and in light industrial products such as fans and pumps. The project will develop new power electronic circuit configurations through extensive design testing and simulation. The design of the motors will also be investigated as this affects the choice of power electronic controller. A simulation package will be developed incorporating all parts of the drive. Important design issues such as EMC, acoustic noise, control algorithms, sinusoidal rectification, active and passive component design and packaging will be addressed.
