Summary on Grant Application Form
1.Determination of the interfacial reaction kinetics and mechanisms of oxidation and reduction of well characterised natural and synthetic pyrite in aqueous solutions as a function of pH, by a range of electrochemical and surface chemical techniques.2.Determination of the feasibility of novel coal desulfurisation processes using:a) electrochemically generated reducing agents such as Cr2+ or V2+ ions todecompose pyrite reductivity with the evolution of hydrogen sulfide (and hydrogen)b) a packed bipolar bed electrode of particles of pyrite (as a model) and then of coal containing 2% pyrite.
