The general aim is to replace the conventional acid etching method of pearling light bulbs with an integral on-line process which would give the same light diffusing effect and which would eliminate or reduce problems associated with Hydrofluoric acid. Foreseen benefits are strategic, financial and environmental, for the company and increased academic awareness of industrial technologies, opportunities for technology transfer and increased project management skills for the institution.
