(1) Background study. (2) Material micromechanics. (a) A simple rule of mixtures formulation will be initiated to determine elastic properties. (b) An orthotropic laminate analysis model will be developed. (3) Response prediction of single skin laminated plates will be initiated by a generalised formulation of orthotropic plate theory. (4) Response prediction of sandwich panels will include linear and non linear options. The model will be capable of assessing the effects of thin/thick faces and weak/significatn cores. (5) Modelling of stiffeners will be achieved using a modified curved beam theory as applied to composites; this deals with bends with small thickness to width ratios. (7) Algorithm applications will be drawn from large naval ships, small craft, structural components and connections, and offshore structure problems. The principal object willbe to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.
