Summary on Grant Application Form
To examine the conditions under which similarity parameters and scaling laws can be found for high pressure, sulphur hexafluorible arcs burning in a supersonic nozzle. Based on this study, further simplification of the governing non-linear partial differential equations will be undertaken with a view to establishing a suitable arc model for circuit-breaker design and prediction of network operations under switching conditions. Investigation on arc instability and the modelling of turbulent arc will also be carried out.
