Summary on Grant Application Form |
The objective of the research is to devise automatic control strategies to facilitate the automation of the shoe roughing process. Although the techniques to be investigated will be applied on shoe manufacturing machinery, they could be usefully explored in a wider industrial context. The control strategy will be based on a combination of the development of model-based monitoring techniques, together with fuzzy logic control to deal with the inaccuracy inherent in the feedback signals. Mathematical models will be developed to describe the dynamic behaviour of the process and the sensors.
