Summary on Grant Application Form
The ultimate aim of this research is to develop a theory of interactions between dislocations and impurities and between dislocations and phonons based on topological considerations. These new interactions arise from the addition of the topological phase connected with the gauge potential of dislocation and the Berry geometric phase to the action integral which enters into the path integral expression for electron or phonon propagators. The practical part of this research will deal with the search for direct experimental proofs of the topological interactions and the use of the newly developed theory to explain relevant experimental data.
