Generate fundamental knowledge on which to base an economic manufacturing process and design methodology for high volume, locally reinforced A1 alloy MMC cast components, by experimental investigation and computer modelling of: (1) development of MMC cast microstructure; (2) micromechanics of MMC thermomechanical fatigue; and (3) MmC component stress distributions under service loading.
