Summary on Grant Application Form |
The preparation and characterisation of new membrane forming materials, based on liquid crystal moieties combined with macrocyclic ligands which will be attached to a polymer backbone, will be undertaken. These will be crosslinked to form membranes and a study of the selective separation of ionic substrates by these new systems will be carried out. This will form the basis of a biomimetic study of the channel mechanism for ion transport across membranes.
