Summary on Grant Application Form |
The goal of this research is to develop a new approach to adhesive joint design stress analysis which will enable adhesives to be used more effectively as a joining technique in the manufacturing industry. To obtain this goal it will be necessary to:(i) generate data that summarises the current adhesively bonded joint design procedures and establishes their constraints and limitations.(ii) to formulate a generic classification system for adhesive joints which will both systemise the development of the methodology and ensure its universality.(iii) to produce a joint stress analysis tool that can produce useful design data to be used in conjunction with appropriate design allowables for any joint configuration with minimal user effort.(iv) to generate appropriate design allowables and to validate the procedure.
