Summary on Grant Application Form |
This proposal to investigate open channel two-phase flow is expected to obtain knowledge of value for the design of distillation columns in which trays are used to contact the vapour and liquid. Distillation is still the most frequently used method of separating fluid mixtures (1) and trays (or plates) are widely used. The design methods used in distillation are still essentially empirical (2) based on correlations of experience with existing types of equipment. This inhibits change and the development of new trays, particularly for large diameter columns.
