Summary on Grant Application Form
The Research Data Facility (RDF) was initially established in 2011. Its purpose was to provide a well-managed, robust, safe and secure data platform to enable users to store their key scientific data over the transition period between national High Performance Computing (HPC) services and also to provide a collaboration space for project teams from multiple institutions.

In 2020 when the original RDF was decommissioned, EPCC offered to provide a replacement for the EPSRC scientific community on ARCHER2 as a service rather than a capital investment by EPSRC. Since 2020, EPCC has therefore provided a 5 Petabyte RDF as a service (RDFaaS) as a research project.

This proposal represents Phase 3 of the RDFaaS research project and will run until the end of the ARCHER2 national HPC service in November 2025.
