Summary on Grant Application Form
Electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are regarded as the primary means of tackling resource depletion and climate change due to the transport sector. Pre-empting the topography of the road ahead in real-time will improve the performance of low carbon vehicles by saving energy, extending their driving range, and enhancing the life of component sub-systems. This project brings together engineering and information systems to develop a new energy management and control system to exploit recent advances in GPS and 3D terrain mapping. The work will create new smart algorithms and control strategies to be operated directly on a laboratory-scale electric vehicle testbed.
