Summary on Grant Application Form
As recognised by the Roberts report and the International Review of Mathematics, the compressed timescales of the UK higher education system mean that our graduating PhD students have a narrower knowledge base than that of their natural competitors. The MAGIC project will help to address this by making available a broad array of courses covering the whole range of mathematics (with pure maths covered by this form, and applied maths and statistics covered by the linked bid from Manchester). These will often be taught by international leaders in the relevant subject areas, and they will be accessible to students both inside and outside the consortium.
