Building on the already strong linkage between the University of Surrey, Brooklands Museum, Concorde and F1 the project Team plan to create unique interactive exhibits and poster documentation at Brooklands Museum, that will promote both public interest and open dialogue in the important subject areas of F1 and supersonic transport (SST) aerodynamic design.The Team shall enhance the existing F1 static car exhibit with a series of detailed and informative poster and video displays depicting the aerodynamic advances that have been made in the design-aero test-manufacture-*track test-race process of a F1 car, in addition to the important role that F1 plays on the economy. The public will then be able to experience the effect of changing performance parameters, such as reducing downforce, on a F1 car with the introduction of a new bespoke F1 simulator.Alongside the static airframe Concorde exhibit, the Team shall install a realistic simulator and graphics capability back into the existing unique Concorde flight simulator cockpit. Once the public have experienced a Concorde 'flight' and visited the interactive restored Concorde airframe, they will be introduced to detailed information, displayed around the exhibit hanger, that highlights the technical aerodynamic challenges posed and solutions achieved for Concorde, in addition to current UK based SST research activities.Whilst the simulator technology is expensive, it is key to drawing in the public and young people, and adds an additional immersed element to the learning experience.
