Fuel cells are set to replace batteries in a range of small and portable devices and applications. They offer longer use before replacement or recharging, greater fuel efficiency and lower environmental pollution. This project aims to develop a more flexible fuel cell technology that is designed to fit the purpose and offer improvements in lifetime, reduced cost and efficiency for a range of commercial applications. The project will produce a fuel cell design(s) that offers flexibility in applications and can use several liquid based fuels. The research will include characterisation and optimisation of novel electrocatalysts and electrode materials and evaluation of the performance of fuel cells with different organic fuels.
