Summary on Grant Application Form
In the aftermath of recent serious flooding in Europe, there has been a body of research undertaken over the last five years in the domain of flood repair and reinstatement supported by the European Union, national governments and industry. There are also numerous on-going investigations into novel aspects of flood management, impact of flooding and restoration of flood damaged property. Much of this research has been prompted by the widespread call for improvements in flood defences, including non-structural flood defence strategies, and in the management of insurance claims. Disseminating the findings of such research to the relevant stakeholders is not straightforward due to the sheer number and diversity of organisations involved. To some extent, much of this research has overlapped and led to duplication and inefficiencies. There are also various other developments and initiatives which are on-going and soon to be announced or published in the near future. Knowledge of these various developments is important for industry, academia and property owners alike. The aim of the proposed research is to develop and disseminate such knowledge. It entails running multi-disciplinary workshops, conferences and on-line discussion in which the following issues will be subjected to critical examination: identification of good practice in flood repair and in particular in the use of flood resilient methods and procedures; health issues for property owners; and new guidelines and information sources on issues related to flood repair.
