The workshop will be devoted to identifying outstanding problems presented by large multi-component complex systems and those mathematical techniques in nonlinear systems and stochastic processes that are required to treat them. Specialists working in areas of mathematical biology, eco-system modelling, semi-classical and statistical physics, engineering and finance will join with mathematicians working in nonlinear systems and stochastic processes to discuss problems of current interest and methods of solution. Twenty one international experts have been invited to give perspectives on mathematical developments and scientific/engineering application areas, together with up to twenty younger scientists in the earlier stages of their career. The workshop timetable will be devoted to topic overviews, with more technical presentations on the mathematical and computational tools that can be deployed or that require development, to achieve solutions. The workshop will also feature a poster session. The informal nature of the workshop will facilitate communication between participants working in areas that are often differentiated by language and application. This will enable common problems to be identified and will encourage the transfer of ideas and techniques across subject boundaries. The workshop will foster collaboration between the participants in the first instance, but it is expected this will extend to the wider community.
