|
The aim of the reconnaissance mission is to identify sources of data on building damage and injuries for undertaking an epidemiological survey at a later date. This will make use of data collected from EEFIT (the UK based earthquake engineering field investigation team) and other international engineering reconnaissance teams and correlate construction damage with findings in human casualty patterns. The mission will concentrate on comparing engineering casualty models with reality - in particular the human, social and community aspects of vulnerability, including relief and medical aspects, such as the implications for survival based on the causes of death and injury. The main subject being: what are the key lessons to be learnt from this particular earthquake?
