Summary on Grant Application Form
Four University of Birmingham academics will be visting Japan to give four scientic papers giving the results of EPSRC funded research on Investment Casting at a conference. As well as giving the papers the academics will be visiting two Japanese companies involved in manufacturing parts using the Investment Casting process to see how the Japanese run such factories and to see what opportunities there are that could lead to further research. Two visits will also be made to research organsiations. The first one to a Japanese Government funded research laboratory which works on research in the general area of Materials and Materials Processing. The second one to Osaka University which has an international reputation for work in the areas of solidification and casting of metals. One aim is that the two visits to research laboratories will help the academics identify areas wher they can work with the Japanese researchers on collaborative projects. Another aim is to compare (benchmark) the casting research in the UK against that in Japan.
