Summary on Grant Application Form
This project aims to set up prototypical systems that we hope will reveal striking new aspects of complexity and pattern formation within lipid-bounded systems called vesicles. We hope to better understand the processes by which unusual periodic variations are seen in chemical systems that might lead to insight into the self assembly of large inorganic molecules and minerals, the origins of chirality, create new patterned redox environments and new antibacterials. Ultimately such systems might represent the first chemical cells or CHELLS that are constructed from a totally new range of building blocks not found in biology.
