Summary on Grant Application Form
We are committed to organise the second international conference on the convergence of video, vision and graphics (VVG'05), following the successful first edition which took place at the University of Bath in July 2003. The VVG series is the only UK-based conference series uniquely devoted to convergence research, a topic of increasing interest for academia and industry alike. The main sponsor of the event is the Institute for Mathematics and its Applications (IMA).We seek a contribution from EPSRC towards expenses related to PhD training opportunities (attendance studentships) and partial support for invited speakers, only partially subsidised by IMA. All other costs are borne by IMA.The potential of convergence technologies for UK research and its applications was recognised by EPSRC since the late nineties, and workshops with the research community organised to discuss strategic directions for UK research. Today, VVG convergence technologies pervade a wide spectrum of applications, including digital and interactive TV, advanced and immersive communications, film and post-production, education and training, 3D, mobile and internet gaming, movies and entertainment, image and video-based consumer electronics, and surveillance.
