Internal gravity waves are waves that propagate in the interior of the atmosphere and ocean. They are often of large amplitudes and are an important feature of the flow field. When they break there is consequent mixing of the density and velocity fields . This project will develop a theoretical model of a vertically propagating internal gravity wave beam which interacts strongly with its induced mean flow field. The aim is to determine whether this mechanism can lead to wave breaking.
