Summary on Grant Application Form
The Soil Mechanics Section at Imperial College has decided, against national trends, to invest heavily in experimental research, and the three laboratories have undergone a structural refurbishment over the past four years, paid for largely by the Section, but depleting resources severely. The laboratory is now running close to its capacity with many new researchers. This application is for equipment only, with the principal aims of enhancing our experimental capabilities, augmenting our stock of advanced apparatus, opening up new avenues of research and using this equipment in a series of novel studies. The equipment requested includes bought items (such as the microscopes), major apparatus built in house (such as the triaxials) and a large number of high resolution transducers. A relatively small amount of technician time has been included as this is essential for apparatus construction, as described in the Case for Support.
