DNA microarray techniques set the goal standard for high throughput screening techniques - even though the approach necessitates fluorescent labelling, the use of lasers, are cumbersome and costly.This proposal seeks to build a consortium - who together will develop a platform technology to challenge conventional DNA microarray techniques. This technology will offer similar and potentially superior performance to conventional microarrays, while negating the use of fluorescent labels - by exploiting an electrochemical (impedance based) interrogation approach. Together these approaches promise far greater simplicity over conventional DNA microarray technology - and will offer cost savings, enhanced robustness and user friendliness to end users - all of which favours widespread application.These benefits will be achieved by:(i) monitoring electrochemically biological affinity based binding events, via...(ii) impedimetric approaches utilising...(iv) scanning micro-electrode based techniques, at...(v) spotted microarray plates- produced by photo-lithographic, screen printing and micro-jet spray techniquesAll of the key components are in place to develop a new generic platform technology that is a reality waiting to happen upon funding.
